Photo booth, photobooth or selfie station: what's the difference?

Three names, one machine

Start with the important part: photo booth, photobooth and selfie station describe exactly the same thing. A self-service event booth that takes photos, GIFs and Boomerangs, frames them in your colours and sends them instantly to your guests.

You won't rent a different product depending on the word you type. With us, it's the same booth at the same rate.

A matter of vocabulary, not hardware

In Quebec, "photobooth" is heard everywhere in conversation and across the events industry — the English term entered usage without resistance. "Borne photo" remains very present in French-language search, particularly among couples planning a wedding.

"Selfie station" stresses the gesture: nobody holds the camera, the guest triggers it themselves. That's actually a good description of what the booth does, since it's designed to run with nobody behind it.

What is genuinely different

The useful confusion isn't about synonyms, but about three neighbouring products sometimes lumped together.

The photomaton

The one in metro stations and shopping malls. It delivers a fixed paper print, with no GIF, no digital delivery and no gallery. That's a difference in kind, covered in our guide on photo booth or photomaton.

The 360 booth

A platform the guest stands on while a motorized arm rotates around them, filming in slow motion. The result is a short, spectacular video, very different from a photo. It needs floor clearance and a host.

The mirror booth

A large interactive touch mirror, offered by other Quebec providers. It's different equipment, and Ouisnap does not offer it. Better to say so plainly: if that's the format you want, you won't find it here.
